Collaborative Field Study Program 2024
The Class of 2022 students of the Biology Education Program participated in the Collaborative Field Study Program for the courses Ecology, Zoology, and Botany, conducted from November 21–23, 2024, at the Pematang Siantar Zoo and the Forestry and Environmental Instrument Standard Application Center (BPSILHK) Aek Nauli.
Day 1 (November 21, 2024)
The program commenced with a wildlife observation activity at the Pematang Siantar Zoo, led by the lecturers of the Vertebrate Zoology course. The day concluded with a journey to Aek Nauli for preparations and a briefing on upcoming fieldwork activities.
Day 2 & 3 (November 22–23, 2024)
The field study included:
Phanerogamae Botany: Observation and identification of higher plants classified under Phanerogamae, including flowering plants (Angiosperms) and seed-bearing plants (Gymnosperms), within the vicinity of BPSILHK Aek Nauli.
Animal Ecology: Conducting biodiversity studies using pitfall traps and light traps to observe invertebrates and nocturnal species around the field station.
Plant Ecology: Performing vegetation analysis to study plant community structures and their ecological interactions.
This collaborative field study program provided students with invaluable hands-on experience, fostering a deeper understanding of biodiversity, ecological interdependence, and environmental stewardship. It served as a vital step in preparing future biologists to approach real-world challenges with knowledge, curiosity, and responsibility.
